The building at 417 Royal Street, now the home of Brennan's
restaurant, was built in 1795 by Don Vincente Rillieux (great-grandfather of Edgar Degas). It would later become the Banque
de la Louisiane (first back in the Louisiana Purchase territory) in 1804, the home of chessmaster Paul Morphy, and a property
of Tulane University (bequeathed by William Ratcliffe Irby in 1920), and the Patio Royal
