Al Copeland opened a not very successful Chicken on the Run in Arabi in 1972.  He decided to spice it up and renamed the place "Popeye's" (in honor of Popeye Doyle in The French Connection).  Calling his new product "New Orleans-style fried chicken" he made a fortune.
