At the Grunewald Hotel (later Roosevelt now Farimont)
on Canal St. what is believed to have been the first nightclub in the U.S. opened in 1908. It was called The Cave
and was filled with gnomes and fairies, stalactites and stalagmites. Jazz was the featured entertainment.
