The famous Falstaff Brewery "weather ball" and "F A L S T A F F" sign was added to
the top of the brewery in 1952.
The ball would be lit green if fair weather was predicted, red for clouds, red and
white for rain, flashing red and white for storms approaching. The letters signaled the temperature -- flashing on
and off if the temperature was constant. lit from top to bottom if temperatures were falling, and from bottom to top
if temperatures were rising.
