Ruth Fertel bought Chris Steak House at 711 N. Broad
Street in 1965. She had no experience in the restaurant business, mortgaged her home, and brought her training in in science
into her new pursuit (eventually designing one-of-a-kind heat intensive broilers). The rest is history.
