Founded in 1849, the Southern Yatch club, the second oldest in the United States, prospered enough
to building this attractive frame structure in 1879. Atop wood pilings in the waters of Lake Pontchartrain, the club housed
an office, clubrooms, dormitories and a cafe'; however, deterioration proved so severe by the end of World War II, the building
was demolished.
