Benny Grunch at Parkway Bakery -- December 2006

We went to Parkway to hear Benny and the Bunch and have a few beers with our fellow locals.  We didn't expect lots of free food (which we didn't touch because we were headed for the Delachaise).  It all looked great -- red beans, spaghetti, po-boys, etc.  What a nice way for Jay Nix to show appreciation for his customers.

The crowd -- a mix of young and old and all between.  Felt like home.

We've heard Benny an'nem before but they've never sounded better.  The guys on the horns were great as was the guitarist who also did a pretty good Louis Armstrong impersonation with Wonderful World.  Benny's got a better voice (when covering N.O. hits) than I realized.  They're a surprisingly good band when they're not doing their typical (well loved) foolishness.  A lady guest singer (I was inside getting more beer when she was introduced) was terrific
